6 Steps to Better Singing
Having a great singing voice requires consistent maintenance to enhance it, however good you can naturally sing. Studies reveals that human skills are either from nature of nurture. 1. Exercise.
To sing better, you have to be physically fit. Just as every instrumentalist has their own Instrument, your body is your instrument. It takes a healthy body to have stamina in performance of whatever kind. Because caring for your health helps you sing better as it helps you enhance your posture which is super important in voice training.
2. Eat healthily.
Many singers experience a condition where you feel a burning sensation around the lower chest region. It is called acid reflux. It dries and burns the vocal folds. The consequences? Throat cancer among others. The cause? Eating unhealthy food. The cure? Eat healthily.
3. Practice breathing exercises.
Breathing properly is essential when you want to be better at singing. Every good singer does this. It is called diaphragmatic breathing. This breathing is not from your throat or chest. It is not like your normal breathing. The benefit of it is that it helps you control your voice and sustain breath even through a long phrase or when you pitch.
4. Consistently warm up before you sing.
Doing warm ups helps you avoid singing problems such as strains and cracks in the voice. It also helps in making your vocal cords relax at your voice range. You can start with running scales and different sounds using various mouth openings. This will not only help make you sing better, it will also make your mouth relax too. Intentionally inhale and exhale when you sing.
5. Listen to yourself by recording your voice.
Make it a habit. Because the most convenient way to sing better and improve on your voice is to regularly check your vocal progress. Do a video or audio recording of your singing. This will not only improve your singing but also how you project your voice and yourself towards an audience and boost your confidence as you can see and hear yourself before anyone does
6. Seek a vocal coach.
Singing, as with any skill, requires a teacher. Being self-taught still means having someone to teach you (though not directly). Whether you're a complete beginner or intermediate or advanced singer, you still need a coach to evaluate your progress and help you improve on your skills.
